5 Frisian Social Challenges online!

Business Development Friesland is selected to be one of the 20 European Social Challenge Nodes of the Social Challenge Innovation Platform. SocialChallenges.eu is a far-reaching European online ecosystem fostering the interaction between social innovators and SMEs for the co-development and take up of sustainable and marketable innovations with a clear social impact. The platform aims to be a social innovation marketplace, where Public Authorities, Private Companies or Third Sector Organizations can post and give visibility to social and environmental challenges they want to solve. At the same time, social innovators and entrepreneurs from across Europe are invited to propose innovative solutions.

“A great opportunity for Frisian Entrepreneurs, authorities and educational insititutes”, says Frank Hiddink of BDF. “There are only two social Challenge nodes selected in the Netherlands: Impact Hub in Amsterdam and BDF in Leeuwarden. In our role as node, we are going to look for both challenge owners and solution providers in Friesland and beyond”.

The regional challenges that are published on the Social Challenges Innovation Platform will receive possible solutions from all over the EU. The challenge owner selects, together with a team of the platform, the best solution and organisation that can start working on the challenge. On the other hand, the platform offers (start-up) entrepreneurs and other social innovators the opportunity to get funded €30.000,- to solve one of the social challenges that are published on the platform.

Up to September 10th, regional challenge owners could submit their social challenge at BDF just like the 19 other Social Innovation Nodes in different regions in Europe.

‘Five challenges were submitted in Friesland’ says Erna van der Werff of BDF. ‘The submission vary from elderly care in small vilages to the search for ‘hidden entrepreneurship’ and talent development for immigrants”. “We have placed the social challenges on the social innovation platform, know we wait for the innovative solutions.

Companies and organisations from all over Europe can submit their innovative solution for the total of 30 EU challenges until December 15th. The best solutions will be funded by the European Commision with €30.000,- so that the challenges can actually be solved.
