Tourism is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing economic sectors. In 2012 the number of international tourist arrivals surpassed 1 billion, and is forecast to reach 1.8 billion in 2030 according to the UNWTO. Within this continuing growth of tourism there is a growing trend & a raising consumer awareness for sustainable and responsible tourism. Responsible tourism is tourism that minimizes negative economic, environmental and social impacts, brings economic benefits to host communities and preserves the cultural and natural resources of the destinations.
The CORRIE (Community of Responsible Recreational Initiatives in Europe) project aims to raise awareness on the topic of responsible tourism and recognise the inherent business opportunities. Using this approach, the project will increase business skills and foster a "responsible" mentality among people and communities active in tourism.
The project is intended to contribute to social inclusion through addressing both the development of inclusive HR-policies and recruitment processes as well as strengthening capacity at management level and HR-staff involved in the formulation and implementation of these activities.
The projected is intended to produce results that could be used by employers who wish to address different disadvantaged target groups such as Migrants, Disabled and Youth. Nevertheless, in its approach the effects and ambitions already pointed out will also support other groups that might suffer from an excluding labour market, also including aspects of gender equality and age.
The project partners will develop a course curriculum with useful tools to contribute to this issue.
